City of Bloomington Animal Shelter Seeking Volunteers for ASPCA $100K Challenge

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Animal Shelter extends a heartfelt thank you to the more than 8,000 local animal lovers who took time to vote, helping the Shelter win a spot in the 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. The Shelter now will compete for more grant funding, including a grand prize of $100,000.

The 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge is a nationwide competition for animal shelters (and their communities) aimed at getting more animals adopted or returned to their owners than ever before. From August 1 to October 31, 2012, the Shelter will compete to find homes for more cats and dogs than during the same period in 2011. Competing against 49 other shelters, the goal is to save 750 more animals, doubling the number of lives to be saved to 1,500.

In order to reach this very ambitious goal, the Shelter is planning numerous special events and is seeking additional volunteers to help with animal care, events and adoptions. The Shelter will hold a "How You Can Help" call-out meeting on Friday, July 13, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in the McCloskey Room on the first floor of City Hall, 401 N. Morton St. New and current volunteers are invited to attend to find out more about the Challenge and about the volunteer tasks available.
