City accepting nominations for "Be More" volunteer awards
Bloomington, Ind. - Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that nominations are now being accepted for the Be More Awards, the community volunteer awards sponsored by the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network.
"I look forward to the Be More Awards every year because I learn about the people who are making amazing contributions to our community behind the scenes," Kruzan said. "I hope that folks will take the time now to nominate those they know who are doing just that. We want to know about them and honor them."
The awards program, which is co-sponsored by the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, the IU Credit Union, the United Way of Monroe County and WTIU Public Television, honors local volunteers for outstanding community service. Nominations may be submitted by members of the general public, community agencies or family members. Ten awards of $500 each will be granted in categories including recreation and fitness, health and wellness, arts, board and commission service, higher education, youth, education and literacy, environment, animal welfare and lifelong service. A general service award also will be given.
Nomination forms are available online at [www.bloomington.in.gov/bemore|www.bloomington.in.gov/bemore]. Questions can be directed to the Volunteer Network's coordinator, Bet Savich, at 349.3472 or [mailto:volunteer@bloomington.in.gov].
Nominations will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Feb. 1. The Be More Awards ceremony will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. on April 2 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The event is free and open to the public.
