City of Bloomington Animal Shelter announces spring adoption promotions

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Animal Shelter announces plans for two upcoming adoption promotions.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the Shelter invites residents to adopt their own "lucky charm." From March 15 to 17 adopters will be able to reach into the Shelter's "pot o' gold" and pull out an adoption discount worth anywhere from $25 off to the entire adoption fee.

"Please consider changing the luck of a great animal in need of a home," said Laurie Ringquist, director of Animal Care and Control. "You just might find that your luck changes too."

The second promotion will coincide with March Madness to demonstrate the Shelter's support for the IU men's basketball team. Tip-off is March 18, and as IU progresses through the brackets on the way to a national championship all adoption fees will be reduced by $5 for each win. A "Double Dribble" two-for-one adoption fee is available for all adult cats and an "All Star" adoption fee of $40 is available for all dogs and cats who are 30-day veterans of the Shelter.

"We have a few good Hoosiers hoping to become part of the starting lineup in your family," Mayor Mark Kruzan said. "When you adopt a Shelter pet, everybody wins."

The adoption fee covers a first round of vaccinations, a free visit to a local veterinary office, heartworm or feline leukemia/FIV testing, microchip identification and spay/neuter surgery. The fee for dogs and cats younger than 5 years old is regularly $75 and the fee for those older than 5 years is $55.

The public can visit adoptable animals at the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter located at 3410 S. Walnut St. The Shelter is open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from noon until 7 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.

Adoptable animals can also be viewed on the Shelter's website at [www.bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter|www.bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter] and on the Shelter's Facebook page at [www.facebook.com/COBAnimalShelter|www.facebook.com/COBAnimalShelter].
