City of Bloomington Fire Department receives donation from local Moose Lodge

Bloomington, Ind. -
Frank Conard of the local Moose Lodge #1081 presented City of Bloomington Fire Prevention Officer Scott Smith with a check for $1,025 at a presentation ceremony on March 2. The National Fire Safety Council is taking part in its annual fundraiser to raise monies for purchasing fire prevention materials. The fundraiser is supported by Bloomington Fire Department, which receives 95 percent of the money raised.

The check will be used to purchase fire prevention materials for 500 children. The Moose Lodge also donated 36 Tommy Moose stuffed animals, which will be given to children during accidents or other emergencies.

"During these times of very difficult budgets we are relying on donations to purchase our fire prevention materials," Smith said. "On behalf of myself and the entire fire department we extend our sincere thanks for the donation from the Moose Lodge."

Annual national statistics show a person is injured in a fire every 30 minutes, and someone dies in a fire approximately every 2 hours and 49 minutes. It is the goal of the Bloomington Fire Department to be able to reach as many people as possible with public education in hopes of preventing fire and thereby reducing those numbers.
