City releases applications for 2013 Citizens' Academy
Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Department of Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) announced today that applications are available for its 2013 Citizens' Academy program. Citizens' Academy provides participants with an interactive learning experience that focuses on municipal government services, programs and responsibilities.
"The Citizens' Academy provided very valuable insight into the decision-making processes of our community leaders," said Donna Lohr, who graduated from the Citizens' Academy in 2012 and currently serves as the assistant vice president of physician and business development at Monroe Hospital. "It was a wonderful experience, and I would highly recommend the class. The information gained is crucial, especially for professionals who need to know the ins and outs of City government."
Other participants agree.
"The Academy helped me learn about the departments I previously knew very little about," said 2012 Citizens' Academy graduate and current Indiana University SPEA Service Corps Fellow Marissa Baumanis. "I have a whole new respect for every department and their role in making the City a great place to live.
The 2013 Citizens' Academy will meet weekly from Aug. 15 through Oct. 10. The deadline for applications is July 15, and interested parties can apply online at [bloomington.in.gov/neighborhoods|bloomington.in.gov/neighborhoods]. HAND recommends applying early since class size is capped at 30 to ensure a quality experience for participants.
