Bloomington Bikes Month Commuter Challenge continues to through May 15

Bloomington, Ind. - The Bloomington Bikes Month Commuter Challenge will accept new participants through May 8. Current participants started their tallies on May 1 and should continue to record miles biked to and from work through May 15.

The City-sponsored Commuter Challenge occurs every May in conjunction with Bloomington Bikes Month and National Bike Month. City organizers hope the healthy-spirited competition will foster cycling advocacy and promote the creation of bike-friendly workplace programs. The City has registered 10 workplace-based teams so far.

When the competition closes on May 15, teams must submit their tallies in order to be eligible for prizes and potential bragging rights at the National Bike to Work Day Block Party. Awards will be given for biggest team, most accumulated miles, most new commuters, having bike-friendly business practices, among others.

"UITS and our very own City Hall Commuters have a very strong showing this year," said Mallory Rickbeil, who coordinates the City's biking outreach programs. "It'll be very exciting to see how the competition evolves."

New participants can sign up for the Commuter Challenge through the City's [website| http://bloomingtonbike2work13.eventbrite.com]. The City will host additional Bikes Month events, which can be found at http://bloomington.in.gov/bike. Riders of all skill and interest levels are encouraged to participate.
