BEAD to celebrate July with exhibit of new artwork from artist Brent Sievers

Bloomington, Ind. - During July the City of Bloomington's Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will exhibit works by local painter Brent Sievers in the City Hall atrium, 401 N. Morton St. The exhibit will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and evening and weekend hours when City Hall is open for meetings.

Bloomington native Brent Sievers' artwork is inspired in part by his career in science, specifically chemistry. His work is influenced by both the natural and urban landscapes, from which he works to capture the idea that these landscapes are ever changing. A portion of the exhibit will consist of works titled "Walking Through the Levee, which were inspired by the area of Bloomington that use to be known as The Levee.

Sievers presents his artistic perceptions of the world around him in an abstract fashion that he hopes will make viewers stop and think. He creates intriguing pieces with layers of color, lines, shapes and textures. Areas of paint are covered with additional layers, reworked, and many times scraped away, imparting a tension that exists on and beneath the surface. Sievers' intent is to create a compositional rhythm that builds in interest with repeated viewings of his work.

This project is another effort under the City's strategy to leverage and expand the economic development potential of the arts in Bloomington. According to the 2012 Americans for the Arts study, Bloomington's nonprofit arts sector contributes $72.3 million to the local economy annually through direct spending by arts organizations and their audiences.
