Fire Department receives "Great Wall of Rescue" from Monroe County Farm Bureau
Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Fire Department (BFD) is pleased to announce its receipt of a "Great Wall of Rescue" from the Monroe County Farm Bureau. Members of the Department will officially accept the donation at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 27 at the Fire Department Headquarters, 300 E. 4th St. Board members from the Monroe County Farm Bureau will also be present.
"I would like to thank Farm Bureau for donating the Great Wall to the Bloomington Fire Department," Fire Chief Roger Kerr said. "The contribution will enhance our rescue capabilities for the entire county."
The Wall is a lightweight metal panel device designed to aid rescue teams in the event of a silo, grain bin or loose material storage container engulfment emergency. If a victim has been engulfed by stored grain, for example, rescuers can use the Wall to safely encircle the victim and allow for the removal of the suffocating material. More information on the wall can be found online at [http://greatwallofrescue.com/|http://greatwallofrescue.com/].
Multiple members of BFD have received training in this type of emergency, including at this year's Fire Department Instructor's Conference in Indianapolis. The Great Wall of Rescue will be added to the array of rescue tools on board Engine 1, the main toolbox of BFD's technical rescue program.
For more information on the Wall or the BFD's technical rescue program, contact Captain Tania Daffron at 332.9763.
