City of Bloomington Animal Shelter to Hold "Labor of Love" Adopt-a-Thon

Bloomington, Ind. - The Bloomington Animal Shelter will hold a pre-Labor Day Adopt-a-Thon from Wednesday, August 28 through Sunday, September 1, 2013. The Labor Day holiday recognizes and celebrates the economic and social contributions of workers. The work of the staff and volunteers at the Animal Shelter is a "Labor of Love" aimed at finding new forever homes for animals in need and the Shelter hopes to find 100 of those new homes during this adopt-a-thon.

Labor Day has also become known as an important sales weekend and the symbolic end of summer. "Our work at the Shelter is truly a labor of love" said Shelter Director, Laurie Ringquist. "It is so rewarding to be able to match great dogs and cats with loving new families. Now that summer is over and residents are settled back into the routine of school and work, it can be a great time to add a new member to the family."

Special adoption rates during the Adopt-a-Thon are $40 for all dogs and puppies, $20 for all adult cats (1 year and older) and kittens are two for $75 or one for $40. Regular adoption fees are $75 for dogs and cats under age five and $55 for dogs and cats five years and older. Included in the fee are spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchipping and testing for heartworm or feline leukemia/FIV.

The public can visit adoptable animals at the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter, located at 3410 S. Walnut St. The Shelter is open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from noon until 7 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Adoptable animals also can be seen on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Farmers' Market and can be viewed online at [www.bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter] and at [www.facebook.com/COBAnimalShelter].
