2013 Curbside Fall Leaf Collection Information
Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Sanitation Department will begin the 2013 residential leaf collection on Monday, Oct. 28 through Thursday, Dec. 19 for bagged leaves on residential recycling days. Curbside vacuuming will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 4 and end on Friday, Dec. 20.
On your regular yard waste/recycle collection day, you may set out leaves bagged in biodegradable or paper bags for collection without the green, yard waste tag. All other yard waste must be tagged as usual. Leaves will be collected from Oct. 28. Leaf bags may be purchased through many local retailers. Leaves in plastic bags will not be collected and bags must weigh 40 pounds or less. Bags should be placed at the curb by 5 a.m. on collection day.
As in years past, the City will vacuum leaves that are on residential curbs starting on Nov. 4. Other waste cannot be vacuumed and should not be on the curb for pick up. In order for leaves to be picked up, they must be as close to the curb as possible. The leaf collection schedule will be adjusted for inclement weather.
The Sanitation Department would like to remind residents that composting or mulching leaves is the greenest way to both reduce waste and create useful fertilizer for your yard. It's natural, easy, requires almost no maintenance and can be done in any number of ways.
For more information regarding leaf bag procedures, please contact City Director of Sanitation Shelby Walker at 349.3443 or Office Manager Rhea Carter at 349.3443. You may also visit the City's sanitation web page [here|/sanitation].
