Council for Community Accessibility Member to Receive Distinguished Leadership Award

Bloomington, Ind. - David Carter, member and former Chair of the City of Bloomington Council for Community Accessibility (CCA) and Vice Chair of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, has been chosen to receive the Governor's Council for People with Disabilities Community Spirit Award for Distinguished Leadership.

Carter has served on the CCA for 24 years and as commissioner for the Indiana Civil Right Commission since 1991. He earned this award as a result of his work as an advocate for the disabled in key positions with a number of organizations including the Alliance for Community Inclusion, Different Abilities, Abilities Unlimited and the CCA. With degrees from Yale and the University of Chicago, he has taught and authored reports and articles in his advocacy efforts as well.

Carter will receive the award at the "Dream to Dare 2013: Game Changing Communities" conference presented by the Indiana Governor's Council for People with Disabilities. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Westin hotel in downtown Indianapolis.
