City Celebrates Adopt A Cat Month June 1st - June 30th

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington announced it will recognize Adopt A Cat Month, June 1st-June 30th, in conjunction with the American Humane Association's annual national celebration.

Every spring and summer, millions of kittens flood animal shelters across the country. That means your local shelter has cats and kittens of every age, color and personality. The shelter staff and volunteers are ready to help you adopt your very first cat - or to bring home a friend for another beloved cat.

To encourage adoptions during this month, all cats over the age of 6 months will have reduced adoption fees of $30 and kittens 6 months and younger will have a two for one adoption fee of $75. Regular adoption fees are $75 for cats under 5 years of age and $55 for those five years and older. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, vaccines and microchipping, plus testing for feline leukemia and FIV in cats.

In June 2013, the shelter took in 236 cats and adopted out 125. If you are considering adding a cat to your household, please adopt. You can also help the shelter towards its goal of ending pet overpopulation by making sure your cats are spayed and neutered to avoid any unplanned litters.

The shelter is located at 3410 S. Walnut St. and is open to the public Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Friday from noon to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Adoptable animals can also be viewed at the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. and on [the shelter web site|/animalshelter] and [Facebook page |www.facebook.com/COBAnimalShelter].
