City of Bloomington and American Red Cross Host Two Blood Drives at Farmers' Market

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington and the American Red Cross are hosting two blood drives at the Farmers' Market on Aug. 30 and Sept. 6. The time for both blood drives will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The drives will be held at City Hall, 401 N. Morton St. in City Hall Council Chambers.

The blood drives are open to the general public and no appointment is necessary. Generally, anyone who is at least 17 years of age, weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good health can donate whole blood every 56 days and platelets up to 24 times a year. There is no upper age limit for donation.

Those who decide to donate blood should eat and drink plenty of water beforehand. Also, people who have visited certain foreign countries or who are ill and taking certain medications may not be able to donate. Nurses will be available to screen patients before they donate blood to determine if they are eligible.

For more information on donating, please visit [www.givebloodgivelife.org] or contact Health Projects Manager Nancy Woolery at 349.3851.
