City Sponsors Event "From Coverage to Care: Understanding Your Health Coverage"

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington, CoverMonroe, IU Health Individual Solutions, Premier Health Care and United Way of Monroe County will sponsor "From Coverage to Care: Understanding Your Health Coverage," an event to educate Monroe County residents about the upcoming open enrollment period for the Indiana Health Insurance Marketplace. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 23 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m at the Banneker Community Center, 930 W. Seventh St.

The Indiana Health Insurance Marketplace is part of the Affordable Care Act, the new national health insurance law. Speakers at the event will provide insight about the Affordable Care Act and the 2014 - 2015 Indiana Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment period, which runs from Nov. 15 through Feb. 15, 2015. Presentation topics include health insurance terminology, discussion of the Health Insurance Marketplace plans offered in Monroe County, how to use health insurance, understanding health plan benefits and choosing a primary care provider. A representative from CoverMonroe will discuss upcoming educational and outreach events provided by their organization as well.

IU Health Individual Solutions also will offer an event on Oct. 21 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m at the Owen County Public Library, 10 S. Montgomery St., in Spencer. Both events are a part of Money Smart Week, a series of financial stability events sponsored by the Financial Stability Alliance for South Central Indiana, United Way and the Monroe County Public Library's "It's Your Monroe" program. For more information on Money Smart Week, visit [www.financialstabilityalliance.org/moneysmart.html].

Both events are free and open to the public.

In addition to these events, CoverMonroe provides training for those who would like to help educate the community on the Affordable Care Act. United Way of Monroe County is providing funds to support the efforts of the City of Bloomington and CoverMonroe to train and certify Navigators. Individuals must be certified in the state of Indiana to assist with Marketplace enrollments. The City of Bloomington, CoverMonroe, IU Health Individual Solutions and Premier Health Care have certified Navigators to help individuals select a Qualified Health Plan through state health insurance programs or the Marketplace.
