City of Bloomington Animal Shelter Offers Holiday Promotions


Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Animal Shelter has several activities and promotions occurring during the holiday season to benefit animals in need.

The Shelter and B97 Radio have once again partnered for the "12 Strays of Christmas" promotion. Each day until Dec. 24, a new dog and cat will be featured on the radio and will be able to go home for a reduced adoption fee of $12. Featured animals will also be promoted on the radio station's [Facebook page|http://www.facebook.com/#!/b97radio] and on the [Shelter's Facebook page|www.facebook.com/COBAnimalShelter].

The Shelter will be holding a special "Home for the Holidays Adopt-a-Thon" beginning Friday, Dec. 19, and ending Wednesday, Dec. 24. Adoption fees will be reduced to $40 for dogs and $20 for cats.

The Animal Shelter's annual holiday supply drive continues with donation boxes set up in many locations around town. To see the list of donation sites, visit the City's webpage. Donations can also be dropped off at the Shelter. Community members can help the animals in need by donating any of the following items:

  • Cat and dog toys and treats

  • Canned dog and cat food

  • Dry dog and cat food

  • Cat litter

  • Bedding

Regular adoption fees are $75 for dogs and cats under age five and $55 for dogs and cats five years and older. Included in the fee are spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchipping and testing for heartworm or feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). To visit the adoptable animals or drop off donations directly, visit the Shelter at 3410 S. Walnut St. during the following business hours:


Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Tuesdays and Fridays from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
