City of Bloomington Requests Submissions of Images for "A Day in the Life of My Neighborhood"

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington's Housing and Neighborhood Development Department (HAND) and Bloomington Arts Commission (BAC) are teaming up to issue a Call for Images for the exhibit "A Day in the Life of My Neighborhood." The images selected for the exhibit will be displayed for the month of June in the atrium of City Hall, 401 N. Morton St.

Each Bloomington neighborhood is unique, and the special photo exhibit, "A Day in the Life of My Neighborhood," will highlight that uniqueness. " The exhibit will be community-based, consisting of images submitted from individuals of different neighborhoods. The exhibition will be on display June 1 ‒ 30. The opening celebration will take place Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to noon, which coincides with HAND's Annual Blooming Neighborhood Celebration.

Residents of any age are invited to submit a photographic image that illustrates what they think is special about their neighborhood. The image could represent the annual block party, a community garden, neighbors lending a helping hand on a home repair or anything that the photographer feels represents their neighborhood.

The deadline for submitting images is May 1. Images should be high resolution (not to exceed 2MB) and submitted by email to [michaelm@bloomington.in.gov|mailto:michaelm@bloomington.in.gov]. Multiple images may be submitted per individual resident, but staff reserves the right to make final selections. Those selected will be asked to provide a brief written statement describing the scene that the image captures.

This exhibit is another effort under the City's strategy to leverage and expand the economic development potential of the arts in Bloomington. According to the 2012 Americans for the Arts study, Bloomington's nonprofit arts sector contributes $72.3 million to the local economy annually through direct spending by arts organizations and their audiences.
