Be More Awards Will Recognize Outstanding Volunteers


Bloomington, Ind.
- The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network and its partners invite Bloomington and Monroe County residents to the Be More Awards, a community-wide celebration of volunteerism. The ceremony will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave. This event is free and open to the public.

Forty-four individual volunteers and sixteen volunteer groups have been nominated for awards in a variety of categories. Each award will be presented by a different community leader, including Mayor Mark Kruzan; Brent Molnar, WTIU's new Station Manager and Rafi Hasan, the City's new Safe and Civil City Program Director.

The following awards will be presented:

  • Be More Phenomenal: presented to a board member of an organization

  • Be More Involved: presented to a college student

  • Be More Energized: presented to a youth

  • Be More Collaborative: presented to a group or family

  • Be More Healthy: presented for work in health and wellness

  • Be More Knowledgeable: presented for work in education or literacy

  • Be More Creative: presented for work in arts or culture

  • Be More Compassionate: presented for work in animal welfare

  • Be More Sustainable: presented for work in environmental affairs

  • Be More Dedicated: presented for a lifetime of service

The event will announce the award recipients and share stories and inspirational photos of these incredible people and their extraordinary efforts to make the Bloomington community the best it can be.

The Be More Awards are produced by the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network and sponsored by the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, the IU Credit Union, United Way of Monroe County, WTIU Public Television and the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department.
