City Celebrates Adopt-A-Cat Month with "The Great Catsby" June 1 through June 30

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington is celebrating Adopt-A-Cat Month with their event "The Great Catsby," June 1 - 30. The event aims to promote shelter adoptions in conjunction with the American Humane Association and other shelters and rescue groups across the country.

Every spring and summer, millions of kittens flood animal shelters across the country, which means that local shelters have cats and kittens of every age, color and personality, including shorthairs, longhairs and even cats that have been declawed. The Shelter staff and volunteers are ready to help visitors find their perfect feline companion - whether it will be their first cat or a new friend for another beloved pet.

To encourage adoptions in June, "The Great Catsby" will offer reduced adoption fees for cats from June 1 through 30; adoption fees will be waived for all cats five years and older, cats from the ages of six months to five years will have reduced adoption fees of $30 and kittens six months and younger will have a two-for-one adoption fee of $75. Regular adoption fees are $75 for cats under five years old and $55 for those five years and older. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, vaccines and microchipping, plus testing for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV).

The public can visit adoptable animals at the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter, located at 3410 S. Walnut St. The Shelter is open to the public:

Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesdays and Fridays from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Adoptable animals also can be seen at the Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. and [on the Shelter website|/animalshelter] and [Facebook page|www.facebook.com/COBAnimalShelter].
