Adopt-a-Dog Month at City of Bloomington Animal Shelter

Bloomington, Ind. - In recognition of national Adopt-A-Dog Month, the Shelter is promoting dog adoptions with a "Paw-Vengers: Age of Fur-tron" theme and several special events.

Dog adoption fees are reduced to $40 for dogs 5 years old and younger and $20 for dogs 5 years old and up for the entire month of October. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested and spayed or neutered. Normal adoption fees are $75 for dogs younger than 5 years and $55 for those 5 years and older. All dog adopters will also be able to choose a new toy, leash or collar to take home with their new best friend.

Adoptable dogs will make appearances at the following events during the month of October:

  • Sunday, Oct. 4: Monroe County Humane Association, Run for the Animals from 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, Oct. 10: Hoosier Hills Book Fair from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

  • Saturday, Oct. 10: "Yappy Hour" at Ferguson Dog Park from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

  • Sunday, Oct. 11: "Dog Gone Delightful Afternoon" 4H Dog Club at Fairfax State Recreation Area from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

  • Saturday, Oct. 17: "Adorable Adoptables at the Monroe County Public Library from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

  • Saturday, Oct. 24: "Barktoberfest" at Kroger East from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

  • Sunday, Oct. 25: "Hops for Hounds" at Upland Brew Pub from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

  • Most Saturdays at the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., weather dependent

In addition to these events, adoptable animals can be visited at the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter, 3410 S. Walnut St., on Mondays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 5:00 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays from noon to 7:00 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Adoptable animals also can be seen on the Shelter website at bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter and on the Shelter's Facebook page at facebook.com/COBAnimalShelter.
