Cook Pharmica to Receive State Recognition for Water Environmental Efforts

Bloomington, Ind. - Representatives from Cook Pharmica will be in Indianapolis on Friday, Nov. 20, to accept a prestigious award handed out annually by the Indiana Water Environment Association. The John M. Craddock Award is in recognition of the Bloomington drug development and manufacturing company's efforts to limit the concentration of pollutants contained in their industrial wastewater discharge.

Cook Pharmica was nominated for the award by City of Bloomington Utilities Pretreatment Program Coordinator Tamara Roberts, who said the company's internal effluent limits are consistently more stringent than those required by their industrial wastewater pretreatment permit. "This results in lower concentration of pollutants in the wastewater discharged to our sanitary sewer system," Roberts stated. "We appreciate the care and attention that Cook Pharmica puts into its wastewater pretreatment program and its positive working relationship with the City of Bloomington Utilities."

The award is named in honor of the late John M. Craddock of Muncie, Indiana, who spent the majority of his life working to the restore the health of the White River, and in recognition of his ground-breaking water quality improvement work.

The Indiana Water Environment Association consists of 1,300 members statewide dedicated to preserving and protecting Indiana's waterways through educating the citizens of Indiana about the importance of our water environment. The group is holding its 79th annual conference Nov. 16-20 in Indianapolis.
