Bloomington, Ind.﹘The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department recognized volunteer Dave Everton with the BRAVO Award Jan. 26 for outstanding volunteer service to the Department.

Everton portrayed Santa Claus at the annual Skate with Santa at the Frank Southern Ice Arena in December. He drew praise from ice arena staff as well as Skate with Santa participants, who were impressed by his enthusiasm in posing for pictures, and for joining young skaters in making "ice angels."

"Skate with Santa is a fun event for families to make holiday memories," Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department Special Services Coordinator Nikki Wooten said. "Dave has a wonderfully outgoing personality, and his enthusiasm truly helped make the event a success."

Bloomington Parks and Recreation presents the BRAVO Award in recognition of the outstanding contributions of department volunteers.

Everton, a long-time employee of Indiana University, became involved with Bloomington Parks and Recreation when a local caving group he was involved with sponsored a trail at Leonard Springs Nature Park. He has also been a volunteer station facilitator at the annual Leonard Springs Nature Day program for sixth-grade students.

"Making people smile and laugh is a passion of mine," Everton said.
