Mayor John Hamilton Announces Successful Candidate for Assistant Director of Economic Development for the Arts Position

Bloomington, Ind. - Mayor John Hamilton announced today that Sean Starowitz has been hired to fill the vacant Assistant Director of Economic Development for the Arts position in the Economic and Sustainable Development Department of the City of Bloomington.

"I know this is a greatly anticipated hire for the City, and I am pleased to announce Sean as the successful candidate. He brings a fresh perspective and a solid background in community engagement, public art programs and projects and entrepreneurial opportunities to the position," Mayor Hamilton stated.

Starowitz's responsibilities will include all aspects of public art projects management, program management, arts/entertainment/cultural sector development and coordination as well as serving as the City's liaison with the Bloomington Arts Commission.

He will report to Linda Williamson, Interim Director of Economic and Sustainable Development.

Williamson commented on the hire, "Sean brings a unique skill set and a strong record of being a catalyst for creative engagement. Sean's efforts will enhance the City's efforts in not only support for the arts but also in development of and for the arts."

Starowitz said, "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to join the already thriving Bloomington arts community. For me, power of the arts is not only about economic development but community wealth, cultural equity and the pride of place. I'm looking forward to working to working with everyone in Bloomington to foster a sustainable arts-centric city."

Starowitz will receive a starting salary of $50,000 and will begin his new positon on May 23.
