Mayor John Hamilton Selects Public Works Director

Bloomington, Ind. - After conducting a national search to fill the position of Public Works Director, Mayor John Hamilton announced Adam Wason, as the successful candidate.

Wason will continue his service to the City of Bloomington since being appointed as the Acting Director of Public Works on January 1st. Wason began his tenure at the City as an intern during his undergraduate and graduate studies at Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs. In the years following he served in several full-time roles including Public Affairs Specialist with the City of Bloomington Utilities, Assistant Director of Economic and Sustainable Development, Communications Director, and Deputy Mayor. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs and Master's Certificates in both Public and Non-Profit Administration from SPEA.

"I'm pleased to recognize Adam's commitment to Bloomington and all our residents and his experience and tenacity in continuously improving some of our basic public services," commented Mayor Hamilton.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the City of Bloomington over the past decade, and I'm delighted that I am being afforded the opportunity to continue in the role of Public Works Director," Wason stated.

Rick Albright, President of Local 2487 A.F.S.C.M.E. and an employee of the Public Works Department, had this to say about the hiring of Adam Wason:

"Adam has done a good job while serving as the Acting Director of Public Works. He has earned the respect of staff and has a great opportunity to lead the department forward."

The City of Bloomington Public Works Department is responsible for sanitation services, street, sidewalk and ramp construction and maintenance, tree removal in the public right of way, animal care and control, City fleet maintenance and maintenance of public facilities.
