Adopt a Shelter Cat During "MEOW LUAU"

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Animal Shelter is celebrating Adopt-a-Cat Month in June with "Meow Luau," which includes special adoption fees. Cats 3 years old and older will have their adoption fees waived. Cats 6 months to 2 years will have their adoption fees reduced to $40.

Traditionally in June the shelter sees a dramatic increase in the number of cats entering the shelter due to litters of kittens in need of new homes. Kittens spend less time in the shelter prior to adoption, while many wonderful older cats are often overlooked by adopters. To highlight and encourage the adoption of fully grown cats, their adoption fees will waived in June.

The Shelter has cats and kittens of all ages and colors available for adoption, including shorthairs, longhairs and those who are already declawed.

Regular adoption fees are $75 for cats younger than 5 years old and $55 for cats 5 years old and older. Included in the fee are spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchipping and testing for feline leukemia and FIV.

June is national Adopt-a-Cat Month and the Bloomington Animal Shelter joins shelters and rescue groups across the country and the American Humane Association in promoting shelter adoptions.

The public can visit adoptable animals at the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter, located at 3410 S. Walnut St. The Shelter is open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from noon until 7 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Adoptable animals also can be seen on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Farmers' Market and can be viewed online at www.bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter and at www.facebook.com/COBAnimalShelter.
