Old State Road 37 and North Dunn Street Intersection Improvement to Cause Detour

Bloomington, Ind. - The intersection of Old State Road 37 and North Dunn Street will be significantly improved by late October, but reconstruction will require the closure of the intersection and a significant detour for motorists for approximately 120 days.

City of Bloomington and Monroe County construction crews are anticipated to begin the work on or after Monday, June 27th.

Detour options are limited thanks to the mostly rural nature of the area. The detour will utilize Bethel Lane to State Road 45. A Google Maps view of the detour is available at this link: https://goo.gl/iUOJOQ. Motorists traveling the 11 mile detour can expect to add around 20 minutes to their drive time to avoid the construction area.

Major components of the construction project include:

Reconstruction of the existing intersection with a leveling out of Dunn Street and improved sight distance,

Reconstruction of the curve to the north, including the addition of shoulders and new guard rails,

A continuation of the multi-use path along the southwest portion of the project, including a new pedestrian bridge.

Drivers are encouraged to travel with caution and make plans to accommodate the detour during construction.

Destinations potentially affected by the detour and subsequent traffic patterns include Marlin Elementary School, Cascades Park and Ferguson Dog Park.
