Mayors To Hear I-69 Section 5 Update Friday

Bloomington, Ind. - Mayors of the communities along Section 5 of the I-69 Corridor will attend the Metropolitan Planning Organization meeting Friday for an update on construction progress and timelines. Mayors England, Girgis, Hamilton and Kohl, from Mitchell, Bedford, Bloomington and Martinsville respectively, will gather at City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street in Bloomington, at 1:30 p.m. for the meeting.

Representatives from the Indiana Department of Transportation, the Indiana Finance Authority and construction contractor Isolux will be present to share information about current expected completion dates, ownership status of the various components of the I-69 Partnership and planned open-to-traffic dates for the various overpasses/interchanges in Section 5.

"I've invited the mayors from the Section 5 corridor here because we share the same concerns about the timely completion of this project. We are anxious to hear from the I-69 project representatives about their financial status and get some assurances about their projected timelines for getting this highway done. Our residents have been dealing with a receding completion date for long enough," Mayor Hamilton stated.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting, although there will not be an opportunity for questions from the public.
