Community to celebrate Fiesta del Otoño in recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington will celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with Fiesta del Otoño on Saturday, September 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in conjunction with the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market at the Showers City Hall Plaza, 401 N. Morton Street. The theme of this year's celebration is "Todos Somos Inmigrantes," which translates to "We Are All Immigrants."

"Latinos come from many different countries," says Liliana Embriz, co-president of the Latino Enhancement Cooperative. "It is important that we acknowledge the diversity among Latinos. In our celebration of Fiesta del Otoño we want to highlight their many unique customs and cultures. It reaffirms a message to our community that Bloomington and the United States is made up of all these distinct, amazing cultures."

The event will feature informational tables from Indiana University organizations and other community groups. There will lots of opportunities for fun including face painting, artistic crafts and games for children, live musical performances and a dance competition. In addition to the entertainment, event organizers will host a raffle for two tickets to the Dance Theatre of Harlem at Indiana University Auditorium, January 28, 2017.

All events are are free and open to the public. Fiesta del Otoño is a partnership between the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department, Bloomington Sister Cities International, and Indiana University Latino Enhancement Cooperative.

This event is sponsored by Duke Energy, Indiana University Office of the Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs, Old National Bank, and the Vectren Foundation.
