City of Bloomington Announces Live Christmas Tree Collection Schedule

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Sanitation Department will begin picking up live Christmas trees and live wreaths on Monday, Jan. 2 with the last day for pick up on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017

City residents may place their wreaths and trees at the curb for collection on regular yard waste and recycling collection days. All decorations and lights must be removed and the wreaths and trees may not be in plastic bags. Items should be placed at the curb by 5 a.m. on collection day.

The Sanitation Department would like to remind residents that composting and mulching are the greenest ways to both reduce waste and create useful fertilizer for the yard or garden. Composting is natural, easy, requires almost no maintenance and can be done in any number of ways. For more information on composting, visit http://www.epa.gov/composting/.

For more information regarding Christmas tree procedures, please contact City Sanitation Director Shelby Walker at 812.349.3457 or Office Manager Rhea Carter at 812.349.3443. Information can also be found on the City's Sanitation webpage at bloomington.in.gov/sanitation.
