Animal Shelter Celebrates July 4th with Adoption Specials and Announces Closings for the Holiday

Bloomington, Ind. – During the summer months thousands of cats and dogs flood area shelters.  In order to help more animals find freedom from the confines of our shelter in a forever home, the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter will hold a special adoption promotion in honor of the July 4th holiday. Beginning Saturday July 1 and running through Saturday July 8, adoption fees for all dogs and all rabbits will be reduced to $20 and cats and kittens have all fees waived.

Regular adoption fees are $75 for dogs and cats under 5 years of age and $55 for those five years and older. The adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, vaccines and microchipping, plus testing for feline leukemia and FIV in cats and heartworm testing in dogs. Regular rabbit adoption fees are $45 which includes spaying/neutering.

In observation of the holiday, and to assist with preparation of animals for the adoption event, the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter will be closed to the public on Monday, July 3. Staff will be available by phone to assist with stray animal inquires or other animal-related concerns from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Please call the main line at 812-349-3492 for assistance. TheAnimal Shelter is located at 3410 S. Walnut St. and is open to the public Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from noon to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday and Friday from noon to 7:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Adoptable animals can also be viewed at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. and on the shelter web site at bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter and Facebook page at facebook.com/COBAnimalShelter.
