Animal Shelter Celebrates Adopt-a-Dog Month With Special Events

In recognition of national Adopt-A-Dog Month, the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter is promoting dog adoptions with a “Peace, Love and Dogs” theme that includes reduced adoption fees and several special events.

During the month of October, dog adoption fees will be reduced to $20 for dogs aged five years and older and $40 for dogs under five years old. Normal adoption fees are $55 for dogs five years and older and $75 for those younger than five years. All adopted dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, and spayed or neutered.

Adoptable dogs will make appearances at the following events during the month of October:

  • Sunday, October 8: Hoosier Hills Book Fair, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.

  • Sunday, October 8: “Hops for Hounds” at Upland Brewing Company, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

  • Saturday, October 14: “Adorable Adoptables” at the Monroe County Public Library, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

  • Friday, October 27: “Barktoberfest” adoption event at the Bloomington Animal Shelter, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Staff from the Bloomington Animal Shelter will also be on hand most Saturdays at the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., pending inclement weather.

In addition to these events, the public is invited to visit adoptable animals at the Bloomington Animal Shelter on Mondays, Wednesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m., on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12:00 - 7:00 p.m., and on Sundays from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.  A current list of adoptable animals is also available on the Bloomington Animal Shelter website.
