City Invites Public to Attend Sustainable Profits Education Event

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington joins the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce on Monday, December 4 to host “Sustainable Profits: Are You Looking to Improve Your Bottom Line?” Free to the public, the event’s focus is the impact on profitability that results from running a more sustainable business model.

The event will feature testimonials from several business owners who have experienced a positive impact to bottom lines by investing anywhere from $500 to $75,000 to create a more sustainable business model. Several vendors also will be available to discuss methods of implementing sustainable business practices and offer free onsite consultations specific to an organization’s needs.

“This event is a great way to expose local businesses to the benefits of sustainable practices in their work environments. The surprising part will probably be the significant impact even small changes can make to their bottom lines. Improving our environmental practices to lessen our impact on the planet should be a part of every business model,” commented Mayor John Hamilton.

“Too often, the word sustainability serves as a catch-all phrase to signify strictly ‘green’ or ‘environmental’ concerns. While such shorthand usage is convenient, it can create a false dichotomy between sustainability and profit. It reinforces the assumption that what’s good for the planet is always different from what’s good for the business community,” said Brian Payne, Assistant Director of Small Business Development.

Along with the free onsite consultation, attendees will be eligible for a 10% discount on energy-efficiency services from participating vendors.

The event will be held at City Hall (401 N. Morton) in City Council Chambers from 6:00-8:00 p.m. More information is available online at eventbrite.com/e/sustainable-profits-tickets-39487337690.
