Temporary Three-Way Stop at Intersection of South Walnut and Miller Drive - Expect Delays

Bloomington, Ind. - A recent traffic accident severely damaged the signal infrastructure that controls the traffic light for northbound traffic at the intersection of South Walnut Street and Miller Drive, rendering the light inoperable. Repairs are underway, but are expected to take until at least Friday afternoon, if not longer.

The intersection will be converted into a three-way stop until the signal can be repaired.  It is anticipated that this will result in significant traffic delays during busy travel periods.  Travelers are urged to avoid the intersection if possible.

“Unfortunately, a traffic accident resulted in serious damage to the equipment that controls the signal as well as the signal arm at this intersection.  We will need to completely rebuild the signal infrastructure from pouring a new concrete pad, on up,” said Public Works Director Adam Wason.  “We ask the public to be patient as we make these repairs.  A three-way stop is significantly less efficient for traffic movement, so people should expect delays that could be long at busy times of day.”
