City of Bloomington Utilities Announces Restoration of Primary Water Main Monday

Bloomington, Ind. - One of two 36-inch transmission mains that bring water from the Monroe Water Treatment Plant into Bloomington was restored to full functionality this afternoon.  The City of Bloomington Utilities took the main out of service October 29 as part of the construction of Monroe County’s Fullerton Pike road project.

The main’s excavation and relocation was required to accommodate the change in road elevation at the intersection of Walnut Street Pike and Rhorer Road. While the main was out of service, the City’s second transmission main and Southeast Booster Station delivered water to customers in Bloomington and Monroe County.

“We appreciate the County’s collaborative spirit throughout this project, which helped to ensure that CBU could deliver reliable water service during the pipe relocation,” said CBU Director Vic Kelson.

The restoration of the water main should not cause customers to lose water service, but changing flow patterns may cause pressure changes or discolored water. For customers experiencing discolored water, CBU recommends running the tap until the water clears. Questions and concerns about the project and other water quality issues may be addressed to the City of Bloomington Utilities at 812-339-1444.
