12th Annual Homeward Bound 5K Walk to be Held April 13

Bloomington, Ind. - The 12th Annual Homeward Bound 5K Walk will be held at the Waldron, Hill and Buskirk Park (formally Third Street Park) on April 13 at 12 p.m. Homeward Bound is a series of annual events that take place in communities throughout Indiana to raise funding for and awareness about affordable housing and homelessness. The Bloomington walk has raised over $658,000 locally to aid community partners since its start in 2003.

One hundred percent of the money raised stays in Bloomington for local service providers, including Amethyst House, Centerstone, Community Kitchen of Monroe County, Hoosier Hills Food Bank, LifeDesigns, Martha's House, Middle Way House, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, New Hope Family Shelter, Stepping Stones, Shalom Community Center and Youth Services Bureau of Monroe County.

Registration and live music starts at noon and the walk begins at 1 p.m. The walk is a free, family event featuring activities for children at Kid's Island, games for pets at Pet's Island, live entertainment, refreshments and fun. Participants can support their favorite agency by helping them walk towards eliminating poverty in the Bloomington community.

The Homeward Bound Walk is sponsored locally by City of Bloomington's Community and Family Resources Department, United Way of Monroe County, Indiana University and Ivy Tech Community College and through the state sponsor, the Indiana Association for Community Economic Development (IACED).
