Be More Awards Will Recognize Committed Volunteers

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network and its partners invite Bloomington and Monroe County residents to the Be More Awards, a community-wide celebration of volunteerism. This 34th annual awards program will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater (114 E. Kirkwood Ave.).

Forty-two individual volunteers and seventeen volunteer groups have been nominated for awards in a variety of categories, including youth, college student, environmental sustainability, health and wellness, animal welfare, education and literacy, arts and culture, and lifetime of service.

Each award will be presented by a different community member, including Mayor John Hamilton, Tina Peterson (Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County), Marc McAleavey (State Service Director of Serve Indiana), and William Morris (attorney at law and host of WFIU's Just You and Me.)

"The Be More Awards is an event Bloomington looks forward to every year. It's a chance to celebrate those among us who share their time and talents strictly for the benefit of others," said Mayor John Hamilton. "Honoring these caring residents is the right thing to do and the event itself is a delight and an inspiration."

The event will announce the award recipients and share stories and photos of these incredible people and their extraordinary efforts to improve the lives of Bloomingtonians.

The Be More Awards are produced by the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network. The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County contributes $500 to each of the ten organizations for which the recipients volunteer. Co-sponsors include the IU Credit Union, United Way of Monroe County, City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department, and WTIU Public Television.

The event is free and an after-party at Nick's English Hut will follow the awards ceremony.
