Bloomington
, IN -- The City of Bloomington recently was awarded three designations recognizing its innovative approaches to transportation alternatives.

The League of American Bicyclists designated Bloomington as a Bicycle Friendly City at the Silver level. Bloomington has received this award every year since 2003 at the Bronze level. Because of efforts such as additional construction on the B-Line Trail and the development of the Bloomington Platinum Biking Task Force, the City was awarded with a higher level of designation this year.

The League of American Bicyclists also awarded Bloomington City Hall with the Silver Bicycle Friendly Business award for recent bicycle initiatives for employees. Options such as the new Bicycle Commuter Benefit, Bicycle Safety classes and ample bike parking all contributed to City Hall's business designation.
The B-Line Trail was also among the award winners. The City received the Outstanding Transportation Project for the B-Line Trail from the Indiana Metropolitan Planning Organization Council.
"These awards prove Bloomington's commitment to improving and promoting bicycling in the community," said Mayor Mark Kruzan. "We've come a long way, and we're not done yet. We will continue to make transportation alternatives a priority."
