Bloomington
, IN - The City of Bloomington will commemorate the tragic events of 9/11 with a ceremony on Friday, Sept. 10, at 9 a.m. at Showers Plaza outside City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street.

The event, a solemn recognition of the commitment and sacrifices made by public safety officers in Bloomington and around the nation, will include speeches from Mayor Mark Kruzan, State Representative Peggy Welch, Congressman Baron Hill and State Senator Vi Simpson. The ceremony also will include the presentation of the colors, and the playing of Taps by the Monroe County Honor Guard and Amazing Grace by the Bloomington Metropolitan Firefighters Pipes & Drums.

"This ceremony is an important opportunity to recognize the bravery of those who lost their lives in the attacks of 9/11 and a chance to thank the many emergency service personnel who sacrifice daily to keep us safe, here in Bloomington and across the nation," said Kruzan. "I encourage the community to come share this very special commemoration with us."

The ceremony is open to the public, and seating will begin by 8:30 a.m.
