Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington announced today its leaf collection schedule for the fall. The leaf collection program will begin Monday, Oct. 18 and run through Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010.
The following information should be helpful to residents when setting leafs out for pickup:

Leaf bags may be purchased through many local retailers. Leaf bags should contain leaves only and should be placed at the curb on the same day as trash. Leaf bags must be paper/bio-degradable. Only bags of leaves will be collected for free. All other yard waste must be tagged with a City yard waste sticker. Leaves in plastic bags will not be collected. And again, leaf bags containing leaves do not require a yard waste sticker from Oct. 18 through Dec. 23.

In addition to free leaf collection on residents' regular trash day, the City also will provide free curbside vacuum pickup on a frequent basis beginning on Monday, Nov. 8 and running through Friday, Dec. 17. Vacuuming pickups will occur Monday thru Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Leaves should be raked to the edge of the curb and not into the street. Please do not include other waste in the leaf piles as it may clog our equipment. All leaves collected in leaf bags or with curbside vacuuming will be composted at a local facility.
For more information regarding leaf bag procedures, please contact Shelby Walker, City Director of Sanitation, at 349-3443 or visit the City's sanitation web page at www.bloomington.in.gov/sanitation.
