City Announces Grant Recipients for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission Service Projects
Bloomington, Ind. - Mayor John Hamilton announced that the City of Bloomington's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission has awarded grants totaling $31,000 to local organizations for "A Day On! Not A Day Off" volunteer service projects. Mayor Hamilton urges local residents to honor Dr. King by participating in one of the day's many community-centered activities.
"The City is proud to award the grants for Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration projects and initiatives as they honor the memory and spirit of Dr. King," Hamilton said.
Service for Peace ($15,000), Serve Indiana ($10,000), and The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County ($6,000) provided grants to the City of Bloomington. All funds are being awarded to local groups to help them acquire any materials and supplies volunteers will use during the 2017 Day of Service and subsequent "40 Days of Peace."
The groups receiving funds and the amounts are included in the table below. Additional volunteer service projects that did not request project funding also will be taking place.
