City Announces Grant Recipients for Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Projects
Bloomington, Ind. - Mayor Mark Kruzan announced that the City of Bloomington's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission has awarded grants totaling $29,500 to local organizations for "A Day On! Not A Day Off" volunteer service projects. Mayor Kruzan urges local residents to honor Dr. King by participating in one of the day's many community-centered activities.
"Martin Luther King, Jr., Day presents an excellent opportunity for us to enhance our community through collaboration," Kruzan said. "We are pleased to announce our grant recipients for the 2015 King holiday, 'A Day On! Not A Day Off.'"
The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County and Service for Peace provided the City grants of $12,000 and $17,500, respectively. All funds are being awarded to local groups to help them acquire the materials and supplies volunteers will use during the 2015 Day of Service and subsequent "40 Days of Peace."
The groups receiving funds and the amounts are included in the table below. Additional volunteer service projects that did not request project funding also will be taking place. For more information and a list of service projects, please visit [the Commission's website|/mlk] or contact Event Liaison Michael Shermis at 349.3471.
