City Department of Economic and Sustainable Development and BEAD Announce 2011 Arts Project Grant Program Recipients

Bloomington, IN -- The City of Bloomington's Entertainment and Arts District and Department of Economic and Sustainable Development announce the 2011 BEAD Arts Partner Grant Program recipients. This new grant program supports projects that have a focus on the arts, enhance the overall arts economy and seed those projects or events that add to Bloomington's attraction as an arts destination. Grants were awarded to area not-for-profit and for-profit organizations and businesses that create programs demonstrating a high level of artistic quality, are operated with experienced professional management and artistic staff, and demonstrate a positive impact on and value to the community.

The following six projects were funded through the first round of Arts Partner Grants:

Bloomington Area Music, $2500 for support of [www.listenclosely.net|www.listenclosely.net], a site that will increase accessibility to local music and music resources for musicians and the general public.

Krista Detor, Carrie Newcomer & Arbutus Cunningham, $4000 for the presentation of Intergenerational Songwriting and Storytelling workshops that will culminate in a performance during the 2012 Creative Aging Festival.

Framemakers, $4500 for the B-Line Trail BloomingArts Project that will create an outdoor gallery space for artists to display work.

GalleryWalk Group, $3500 for its 2012 Downtown GalleryWalks and expansion of marketing efforts.

Windfall Dancers, $2000 for its Early Drafts project that will create performance opportunities for local artists to present their work and gain feedback from an audience.

WonderLab Museum of Science, Health & Technology, $3500 for the expansion of its First Friday Science of Art series of workshops and demonstrations.
