City of Bloomington and Indiana Arts Commission to Award Grant Recipients at Ceremony

Bloomington, IN -- The City of Bloomington and the Indiana Arts Commission have announced that 20 organizations in Region 8 (Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, and Owen counties) will receive a total of $77,765 in Regional Initiative Grants for the fiscal year 2011.

Grant awards are made possible by the Indiana Arts Commission through the National Endowment for the Arts, with funds appropriated by the Indiana General Assembly and the U.S. Congress.

The following organizations from Region 8 will be recognized in a grant award ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers, 401 N. Morton Street:

Arts Organization Support Grant Recipients
• BCT Management, Inc., $9,532.
• Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, $4,473.
• Bloomington Chamber Singers, $4,672.
• Bloomington POPS, Inc., $4,512.
• Bloomington Playwrights Project, $3,364.
• Cardinal Stage Company, $9,238.
• Lotus Education & Arts Foundation, $7,711.
• Morgan County Community Concerts Association, $2,169.
• Shawnee Theatre of Greene County, $4,405.
• Windfall Dancers, Inc., $4,409.

Arts Projects Support and Mini Grant Recipients
• Area 10 Council on Aging of Monroe and Owen Counties, $4,184 for art instruction and choir programs.
• Bloomfield Eastern Greene County Public Library, $870 for workshops to focus on painting historic buildings around the city of Bloomfield.
• Bloomington Community Band, $2,307 for its Musicianship Workshop series.
• Friends of McCormick's Creek State Park, $2,993 for its Community Arts Day festival.
• Friends of T.C. Steele, $1,594 for its Artist in Residence Program.
• Heritage Education Resources, $638 for its Folk Art program for students at Harmony School.
• Linton Music Festival, $2,732 for its annual music festival.
• Owen County Heritage and Culture Center, $769 for art, music, and writing classes at the Owen County Heritage and Culture Center.
• Trustees of Indiana University-Soft Gallery, $3,751 for its "Blank Slate" exhibit of contemporary works from Indiana artists.
• WonderLab Museum, $3,442 for its "Science of Art: Forged by Fire" exhibition.

Representatives from the City of Bloomington, the Indiana Arts Commission, recipient organizations and members of the region's state legislative delegation will be in attendance at the ceremony. A brief reception will follow the ceremony in the Atrium of City Hall. This event is free and open to the public.
