Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington has created the bloom4fiber campaign to get feedback from the community in order to develop a thorough, targeted and creative response to Google's Fiber for Communities project.

Google is seeking responses from communities across the U.S. as well as independent nominations to become one of a small number of communities where Google will build out a gigabit speed Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) network. Such a network would provide speeds greater than 100 to 1000 times current broadband speeds. The company is asking communities to respond to its challenge and for members of those communities -- individuals, organizations, schools, etc. to submit supporting nominations as well.

"It is my hope that the Bloomington community as well as IU faculty, staff and students will embrace this tremendous opportunity as well," said Rick Dietz, City Director of Information and Technology Services. "Individuals, groups, and organizations may nominate their community and propose ideas for how such a network could be used to its fullest. This is the challenge at hand: How could we in the Bloomington and University communities fully take advantage of a network this fast and this pervasive?"
Individuals, groups and institutions can get involved by visiting the City Google Gigabit Action Center at [http://www.bloom4fiber.net|http://www.bloom4fiber.net], and these social media sites: [http://www.facebook.com/bloom4fiber|http://www.facebook.com/bloom4fiber], [http://twitter.com/bloom4fiber|http://twitter.com/bloom4fiber], [http://www.youtube.com/group/bloom4fiber|http://www.youtube.com/group/bloom4fiber].
The deadline for nominations and proposals is March 26. Visit [http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/public/options|http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/public/options] to send in your nomination for Bloomington.
