City seeks public input on community vision statement
Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington is seeking input from residents on a newly drafted vision statement that was developed as a result of the ImagineBloomington planning process. The vision statement will be used as the foundation for the community's next comprehensive plan, to be developed starting in early 2013.
"Great communities evolve out of great visions," Mayor Mark Kruzan said. "What do our residents want their community to look like in 20 years?"
The draft vision statement was crafted by City staff and a community steering committee and based directly on input received from residents during the ImagineBloomington public workshops held last spring. The steering committee consists of individuals that represent a wide spectrum of community interests.
"Last spring, hundreds of residents gave us input on their hopes for Bloomington's future," Planning Director Tom Micuda said. "This draft vision statement is a result of that process. It touches on the important issues facing Bloomington both today and in the future, from affordable housing to public safety."
Residents will have the opportunity to provide input on the draft statement online at http://imaginebloomington.uservoice.com, via an online survey that will be shared at the ImagineBloomington website (www.bloomington.in.gov/imaginebloomington), and at two upcoming open houses. Residents also may comment by contacting the Planning Department directly at 349.3423.
The first open house will be held from noon to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29 at the Monroe County Public Library in the ground floor atrium. The second open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the atrium at City Hall, located at 401 N. Morton St. Both open houses will follow a format that allows residents to stop by at any time to provide their input.
"This vision statement will guide the development and direction of the Bloomington community for years to come," Sustainability Coordinator Jacqui Bauer said. "We encourage all of our residents to take this opportunity to make their voices heard."
