Bloomington, IN - Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that he is working with Monroe County government officials to seek storm recovery support from the State of Indiana to assist local citizens and businesses.

"I'm extremely thankful there were no significant injuries or loss of life," Kruzan said of the flooding. "But I'm saddened about the extensive property and economic damage our citizens suffered and want to do as much as possible to alleviate costs faced by individuals and businesses."

Kruzan is directing City officials to work with the Daniels Administration by providing damage assessments to the Monroe County Emergency Management Department. That department will in turn communicate countywide damage reports to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. Governor Daniels will review the information and determine whether to issue a Declaration of Emergency, which could trigger financial assistance for individuals and businesses impacted by yesterday's storm and the resulting flash flooding.

City departments and crews are assembling damage reports from throughout the area and will relay that information to county and state governments.

Individuals and business owners who suffered damage should submit their name and contact information as well as a description of property damage sustained to the Monroe County Emergency Management Department at 812.349.2533.
