City Sponsors National Emergency Preparedness Month Event
Bloomington, Ind. - The Community Emergency Preparedness Corps, an AmeriCorps program, and the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network are partnering to host Be Ready Bloomington! on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Monroe County Public Library, 303 E. Kirkwood Ave., Room 1C. The goal of this event is to make Bloomington a more disaster-resilient community.
The Be Ready Bloomington! event will teach attendees and their families how to better prepare themselves for a crisis. Among other valuable information, participants will learn how to be ready to handle their families' personal needs during the first few days after a natural or man-made disaster, how to create and maintain a disaster kit and a first aid kit, how to administer basic first aid and how to establish an emergency plan. After the event, participants may find themselves in a position to offer help, rather than ask for it, during a time of crisis.
Pre-registration is not required. Those under 16 years of age are asked to attend with an adult. A disaster preparedness kit, valued at $60, will be given away as a door prize for participants.
For more information, please contact AmeriCorps member Antonya Wallace at 349.3835 or wallacea@bloomington.in.gov.
