Bloomington, IN - To highlight the dedication of its 100th completed house since Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County's inception in 1988, the organization and the City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will present a photography exhibit. Photos showcasing homes built by the organization and Habitat's recent Women Build event, an all-women blitz build that occurred in May 2010, will be featured.
A celebration to honor the 100th-home achievement will take place on August 21, 2010, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City of Bloomington Community Farmers' Market. The event will include a community build project at Showers Plaza, comments by Mayor Mark Kruzan and an opportunity to view the photo exhibit. A new, customizable 8' by 10' mini barn valued at $1,300 will be auctioned off during the event.
"We wanted to showcase the amazing work of the professional photographers who volunteer their time capturing the action and emotion of Women Build," said Kerry Thomson, Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County's executive director. "Since this summer marked the completion of 100 Habitat homes in Monroe County, we thought a photo exhibit would be a great way to kickoff the celebration. We look forward to thanking all of the community volunteers and supporters at the Farmers' Market event and through this moving photography display."

The photo exhibit will run August 4-31 in the Atrium, which is located in the main entrance of City Hall at 401 North Morton Street. The exhibition hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, as well as additional evening or weekend hours when City Hall is open for meetings and the Farmers' Market.

Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County is a nonprofit housing ministry that promotes home ownership by building decent, affordable houses in partnership with families in need. To qualify for a Habitat home, each family must have the ability to pay its interest-free mortgage and invest at least 250 hours of "sweat equity" or volunteer hours.
