Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington and BEAD will showcase paintings by local artists Jane Jensen and Suchet Kaur in the City Hall Atrium March 6 - 31, 2009.

The collaborative exhibit features oil and watercolor landscapes depicting local Bloomington landmarks alongside scenes from Kaur's native India.

Suchet Kaur is new to Bloomington and this exhibition marks the first public display of her work in the United States. A self-taught artist, Kaur was born and raised in India where she displayed her work in several exhibitions and conducted painting and craft classes for school children in their home. Since moving to Bloomington in 2003, Kaur has been inspired by the landscapes and life of southern Indiana. Jane Jensen, a self-taught artist who has been living in Bloomington since 1997, [Passing Through the Sample Gates by Jane Jensen|thumbnail:4682,left]maintains a gallery in her home where she paints local landmarks including scenes from Indiana University. After earning her BA degree in Arts and Elementary Education from Knox College, Galesburg IL, Jane spent ten years teaching. In 1977, she left the country for Panama where her work received notable recognition in competitions and galleries. Jensen has won several awards throughout her career, exhibited her work in many local competitions and art festivals in the area, and was included in the latest Chamber of Commerce book of Bloomington artists, Bloomington Sketchbook.


An opening reception will take place on Friday, March 6 from 5:30p.m. to 7p.m. The exhibit is free to the public during City Hall's regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday.
