Monroe County CARES Community Meeting and 2014 Grant Applications


Bloomington, Ind. - The Monroe County CARES Board is sponsoring their annual community meeting on March 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1413 E. 17th St. The keynote speaker will be Lisa Hutcheson, Vice President of Policy and Programs at Mental Health America of Indiana and the Director of the Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking. The title of Lisa's presentation is "Walking the Tight Rope Between Advocacy and Lobbying."


Monroe County CARES has released their 2014 grant applications which can be found on their [website|www.monroecountycares.org]. The due date for the application packet is Friday, April 18 at 5 p.m. Applicants can email their applications to llmeuser@mac.com. New applicants and community projects are welcomed. Interested applicants must attend one of two scheduled technical assistance meetings on March 27 or April 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hooker meeting room at City Hall.


Monroe County CARES Inc., a local coordinating council of the Governor's Commission for a Drug Free Indiana, is designed to coordinate, support and promote local efforts to prevent and reduce harmful involvement with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. The Monroe County CARES local coordinating council is an all-volunteer group of community members who are concerned with issues of substance abuse including prevention, education, intervention, treatment and justice.


The Monroe County CARES local coordinating council makes recommendations to the Monroe County commissioners for the allocation of funds for community projects. CARES Board meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. The meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month from 3 to 5 p.m. at Monroe County Community Corrections, 405 W. 7th Street, Suite 2.
