City of Bloomington Utilities' (CBU) mission is to enhance the quality of life in our community by providing safe, sustainable, and high-quality drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater services in a cost-effective manner, promoting public health, economic vitality, and environmental stewardship. The operations consist of the Service Center, the Monroe Water Treatment Plant, the Blucher Poole Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Dillman Road Wastewater Treatment Plant. The water utility maintains an average flow of around 14 million gallons per day through more than 400 miles of water distribution piping, 8 water boosting pump stations, and 8 water storage tanks. CBU treats water from Lake Monroe, which serves all of Monroe County and parts of Brown County (about 120,000 people) through our own system, Indiana University (IU), and 8 wholesale customers. The sewer utility serves approximately 20,300 customers with an average daily flow of about 16 million gallons per day through more than 320 miles of pipe and 46 lift stations. Stormwater is channeled through over 100 miles of pipes, culverts, and ditches.
